THE SOUTHWEST KANSAS EXPERIENCE

The Southwest Kansas Area Cooperative District is located in a growing corridor of Kansas. The town of Ensign serves as the cooperative headquarters, however, participating districts are located across 10,000 square miles in a wide range of communities and settings. Fueled by a growing agricultural and commercial economy, the area enjoys a supportive attitude toward education.

Although located in Southwest Kansas, schools throughout the cooperative enjoy easy access to regional cities which include major shopping, cultural, dining and higher education opportunities. The communities of Dodge City, Garden City and Liberal serve as focal points for Southwest Kansas and each supports a community college with a wide range of continuing education opportunities linked to Fort Hays State University, a comprehensive state supported university located just north in Hays, Kansas. Major airline service is also available in the communities of Dodge City and Garden City, and the major cities of Wichita, Amarillo, TX, Oklahoma City, OK and Denver, CO are located within a comfortable driving distance.

Cultural attractions abound in Southwest Kansas, linking the historical old west to a progressive future. Many community activities and organizations exist along with a wide range of recreational activities. Many communities feature their own golf courses and swimming and recreation areas. Additionally, Southwest Kansas features the world famous Dodge City Days, regional zoos and parks, Community Theater League, and a wide range of youth activities and sports. Additionally, Southwest Kansas is home to the Southwest Kansas Pro-Am Golf Tournament as well as the Beef Empire Days. The famous Colorado ski resorts are within driving distances and hunters enjoy excellent upland game bird and deer hunting.

Southwest Kansas is the fastest growing area in the state and with that comes a commitment from its residents to ensure a high quality of life. Education is a valued component in meeting this goal and residents throughout the SKACD 613 area take pride in their outstanding schools.
