RISE is an acronym for Respect, Inspire, Support, and Empower; we hope to create opportunities for all of our students to RISE at Wilroads Gardens.
Students receiving special education and related services may receive those supports across a wide variety of education settings. In most cases, students receive their special services in their local school building. However, there are some situations in which the best place to provide special education is in another school building with more specialized supports.
In the 2021-2022 school year, SKACD began operations of “our” first school building – we call this a “special day school” since students are transported to this facility daily. This is not a residential setting. While we partner with 14 other school districts and provide services in their facilities, we have not operated our own program until this time.
While preparing to open our first building, the design committee agreed to focus on social and emotional health. We took possession of a former elementary school building in Wilroads Gardens (a country school outside of Dodge City) and created the RISE Wilroads Gardens alternative day school.
Academic growth is not the primary objective of this campus. We focus on mental health treatment and behavioral change. Academic progress will be made only after ensuring social and emotional supports are available to our students. The RISE campus has a suite of mental health professionals (school counselors, school psychologists, social workers and clinical mental health providers) available to support our student body.
The approved flowchart for admittance into this alternative day school can be found here.
